International Center for Brain Science (ICBS)
Director Kozo KAIBUCHI
Even though research technology has advanced, there are still many issues regarding brain function. The pathological mechanisms of psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia and depression) and neurological disorders (Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease) remain unclear. On the other hand, the stagnation of research in Japan has become a major social problem, and there is a limit to the speed and scale of conventional research in each laboratory. To overcome this situation, a research center specializing in psychiatric and neurological disorders was established in April 2021. At this research center, laboratories targeting psychiatry and neurology will deepen alliances and conduct world-class research, and foster researchers who will be leaders in the future, aiming at overcoming psychiatric and neurological disorders.
