Visit and Lecture from Huazhong Institute of Science and Technology
On April 12th, Director Hu Yu from the Affiliated Union Hospital of Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China, visited our university.
Since June 2020, our hospital has been collaborating with Tongji Medical College to transfer a Chinese patient with giant cell myocarditis who was fitted with an extracorporeal biventricular assist device from our hospital to theirs. This joint-effort has saved the patient's life.
This initiative has led to deepening exchanges between the two institutions.
Consul General Yang from the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Nagoya, who supported this transfer, also visited on the same day and attended a meeting with Fujita Health University's executives.
The Consul General mentioned how further collaborations are expected from both institutions, "We hope that both universities will continue to collaborate and contribute to the development of medical care in both countries with excellent medical technology."
On the same day, a lecture was given by Professor Dong from the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery.
He spoke about surgical treatment of cardiovascular diseases and the current status of heart transplantation in China.
He also presented the case of the aforementioned patient who underwent heart transplantation, highlighting their current healthy recovery four years post-surgery.
Fujita Health University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology are planning to further deepen inter-university exchanges by signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreement in this May.
